

Mechanical Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION
Sentient Energy in Frisco, TX is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Mechanical Engineer. This role will support the mechanical design activities by applying technical knowledge toward the development and improvement of Sentient’s family of products. You will develop robust mechanical solutions required in the demanding environment of the high voltage power distribution grid. You will design, create supporting document package, and validate prototypes for both existing product iterations as well as new products.
JOB SUMMARY
- Develop mechanical concepts, proposed features, design, model, and test prototypes
- Produce 3-D CAD files of designs using SolidWorks including final CAD files, vendor drawings, and specifications
- Perform advanced modeling and analysis of components and assemblies
- Define key performance criteria and design appropriate test protocols to ensure reliable product performance
- Identify and specify materials, critical dimensions, tolerances, and parameters like surface finish and hardness
- Create bills of materials for top level assembly, sub-assemblies, and components
- Evaluate costs involved in production at various volumes
- Produce samples of working models for demonstration
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering on production processes
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering OR equivalent practical engineering experience
- 3D CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks
- Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Demonstrated experience with the design, development, DVT, test and delivery of high performing, technically complex, reliable and robust hardware
- Experience solving complex mechanical problems in the areas of outdoor ruggedized products, product manufacturability, strength of materials, and user experience
- Experience in troubleshooting and failure analysis
- Thermoplastic injection molding and injection compression molding processes experience
- Sheet metal design of enclosures and brackets, matching material and parameters to the needs of the system.
What Will Put You Ahead?
- Familiarity with Propel or other similar PLM tools such as Agile or Arena Solutions
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma techniques
- Familiarity with IP68 or equivalent submersible design
- 3+ years mechanical design experience
- Simulation modeling expertise for component stress analysis
- DFM expertise for plastic assemblies and assembly tolerance analysis
