JOB DESCRIPTION

Sentient Energy is looking for a Principal Product Manager to join our team! As a member of the team, you will be responsible for solving customer problems in the form of new products and features. Your focus will be Sentient Energy’s hardware product lines which consist of line sensing and voltage control devices. These devices allow utilities to reduce customer outage durations, improve power quality, and reduce energy consumption.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Lead the vision and roadmap for Sentient Energy’s industry-leading overhead line sensors, underground line sensors, and voltage control devices
  • Perform business case, market need, and competitive analysis for assigned products
  • Interview customers, document their problems/unmet needs, define the impact of those on their business, and define the priority of these problems/unmet needs
  • Define new features and products which address the highest priority customer needs
  • Work with engineering teams and customers to test, adjust, and finalize the scope and design of new features and products
  • Own the internal product development stage gate process for assigned products
  • Support customer installation and validation of new products and features
  • Support marketing and customer-facing events as the subject matter expert on assigned products’ current and future functionality
  • Up to 30% travel as needed across internal company locations and customer sites

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years of relevant experience with electric utility distribution engineering and operations (either as a utility employee, vendor, or consultant)
  • 10+ years of experience as a product manager of intelligent hardware/IoT products in the electric utility industry
  • Knowledgeable of cellular and mesh communication network basics
  • Experience working with overhead and underground electric utility filed crews for device maintenance and installation
  • Strong customer-facing skillset, including public speaking

What Will Put You Ahead?

  • A strong ability to work backwards from customers, defining their problems/needs in detail prior to determining the scope of new features and products
  • A passion for creation, while working closely with customers and internal engineering teams to build new things

Education Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field (electrical engineering preferred)
  • Master’s degree in business or engineering
