JOB DESCRIPTION
Sentient Energy in Frisco, TX is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Associate Mechanical Engineer. This role will support the engineering team’s mechanical design activities by applying technical knowledge toward the development and improvement of Sentient’s family of products. You will help develop robust mechanical solutions required in the demanding environment of the high voltage power distribution grid. You will design, create supporting document package, and validate prototypes for both existing product iterations as well as new products.
JOB SUMMARY
- Develop mechanical concepts, proposed features, design, model, and test prototypes
- Produce 3-D CAD files of designs using SolidWorks including final CAD files, vendor drawings, and specifications
- Perform advanced modeling and analysis of components and assemblies
- Generate mechanical assembly drawings for electro-mechanical structures and products
- Define key performance criteria and design appropriate test protocols to ensure reliable product performance and validation
- Identify and specify materials, critical dimensions, tolerances, and parameters like surface finish and hardness
- Create bills of materials for top level assembly, sub-assemblies, and components
- Evaluate costs involved in production at various volumes
- Produce samples of working models for demonstration
- Support senior team members on complex and involved design projects
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering on production processes and refinements
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical engineering experience
- 3D CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks
- Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
What Will Put You Ahead?
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools and techniques
- Prior mechanical experience or school/research projects
- Familiarity with IP68 or equivalent submersible design techniques
- Simulation modeling experience for component stress analysis
- DFM experience for plastic assemblies and assembly tolerance analysis
- Demonstrated ability to clearly present results and findings of a technical nature to a non-technical audience
